We're starting Season Two with a fresh and fruity cocktail perfect for early summer; a Strawberry Basil Gin Fizz. The ingredients are seasonal, the gin is local, and the cocktail is sublime. Strawberry Basil Gin Fizz Strawberry Puree 1 cup of strawberries 1.5 tablespoons of sugar (2 if your strawberries are tart) Cocktail – Makes two cocktails ⅔ cup strawberry purée 4 fresh basil leaves, torn into small pieces, plus more leaves for garnish 2 tsp fresh lemon juice 4 oz. gin 1 can club soda Mix the strawberries and sugar together at room temperature, and set aside for 15 minutes. Next, add the strawberries and sugar into a blender and blend until puréed. To cocktail shaker, add torn basil leaves and lemon juice – muddle gently. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice and add the strawberry purée and gin. Shake vigorously until everything is combined, approximately 30 seconds. Pour into glasses with ice, and top with club soda to taste. Garnish with half a strawberry and basil leaves. Dive in! |
